Spain Travel: Alicante and Valencia Regions


Laying on the East coast of Spain the Valencia region is known for its miles of beautiful beaches as magnificent Orange groves. This region is slightly less known than other areas of Spain but it is up and coming fast. The Muslim or Moors as they were known, were driven from this part of the country last. Many parts of their culture remain combining for form a unique Spanish-Moorish culture.

The city of Valencia is the Capital of this region. It is famous for the Lladro factory, the famous Glass and ceramic statues. It is also known for one of the most well known fiestas in the country. The fiestas of Saint Joseph or las Falles brings tourists by the millions. Many gather around to see the giant paper Mache figurines set ablaze. The fiestas of Saint Joseph are only beaten by the running of the bulls in popularity in Spanish festivals. The city of Valencia is also known for its incredible gothic architecture.

The region is also called the Costa Azahar or Orange blossom coast. It stretches for miles and has many attractions to see as you travel down. Casellon is one of the first cities you come to as your travel out of Valencia. It has the Santa Maria Cathedral and an impressive city hall building to view.

Traveling further down you come to Pensacola. This cities landscape is highly dominated by the medieval castle. The city is high up so the terrain is a bit precarious. However when looking one can see how they have positioned everything to work within the terrain that they have.

Continuing on you come to Oropresa which is home to the Tower of the King. A bit further down the coast you come to the beautiful city of Alicante.  Alicante is the second largest city I the region and is definitely worth a look. The beaches are marvelous and the Castle of Santa Barbara is one of the most popular tourist attractions.

The Valencia region of Spain is definitely worth a visit. It is packed full of gorgeous scenery, history and culture. IT isn’t as busy as some of the other areas of the country which adds to its appeal. However, the popularity is growing fast so get there while you can. If you want to experience a different side of Spain the go to the Valencia region. It is well worth a trip.
