450226_mixing_desk.jpgMusic is now everywhere. An integral part of music and tunes is a record label. You must be wondering that what these record labels are and why are these called so.

What are Record Labels?
The name record label traces back its origin right during the time when gramophone record was used. A label found on a paper amidst the gramophone record gave the name ‘record label’ to the music files. A record label is nothing but a name given to a brand that is put in place and created by a music company which is mainly focused upon the distribution of such records. Most of the music companies are deeply engaged in the production, sequencing, endorsement and distribution of voice recordings and other audio clips.

These clips and recordings are normally sold out in the form of compact disks or DVDs or cassettes.

Who owns these labels?
Record labels can be owned by anyone who is funding the record or these can be owned by an individual as well who does not take any funding from any big company. Generally, most of these records are major record labels and are owned by big multinational group companies.

Many spin off labels are also now coming up and gaining popularity. At times these independent small labels are owned partly by major label owners. But it has also been noticed that big record label companies devote enough amount of time, energy and money to give chance to fresh talent. This is also being done in order to differentiate themselves in the global recording and music industry.

Small artists join or sign contracts with these companies because of the recognition which they get due to the brand name associated. The association with a big brand name helps upcoming artists to make their stand in the industry.

Record Labels & Artists:
Record label companies and artists share a unique relationship. They both are dependent upon each other and thrive upon the success that each one has. Still there are many other aspects associated as well. The relationship often goes through various ups and downs.

This is mainly because of the difference in the creative perspectives to look at situations. To show their stand and to prove their point many a times artists make some end moment changes in their records through the music labels. Even music labels do so at times to show their authority and to maker their album sell better in the market.

Road to future:
Historically, it was compulsory for an artist to get associated with a music label company. Many artists have made mistakes in the frustration and desperation of meeting this requirement. They have ended up in  a bad state loosing up all their music records as well. To fight such circumstances, lawyers are now appointed to monitor any agreement or contract.
