Air Filters: How To Change The One On Your Car
If you don’t think it is important to change your car’s air filter then you are seriously wrong. We all need to breathe clean air. Imagine trying to breathe through a dirty shirt or cloth. It wouldn’t be very pleasant for you. Forcing you car to use a dirty filter can result in it running less efficiently and using up unnecessary fuel. In this article we will teach you how to change your car’s air filter. By doing this simple process yourself, you will save money and help insure your car will run well.
The first thing you need to do is open you hood and make sure it is secure. Once you have done this you need to locate where you air filter is. Most cars that have been made in the last 20 years have them located towards the front. You need to locate the metal clips and flip them up. If the are tight you may need to use a flat head screwdriver. You may find that your air filter housing is held in place by a nut. If this is the case than you must remove it.
If you have had to remove any nuts, screws or anything from your air filter housing, make sure you put them in a safe secure place before you continue. Small items like these can be lost quite easily. Loosing them can also spell disaster because you won’t be able to re-fasten your new air filter. Place them in your pockets or some other safe compartment. Be sure you remember, so you can get to them when you need them.
Next you need to carefully remove the old filter. Remember, it will be made largely of paper so careful no torn pieces fall back into the car. There could also be some debris caught in the filter. Anything from dust to some fairly large insects could be lodged in there. Keep this in mind and be careful none of this falls back in.
Now it is time to replace the old with the new. Carefully put the new filter in in the same configuration as the old. This should be fairly easy. Many fear putting the filter in upside down. You’ll know this if it happens because your hood won’t shut. Finally you need to push the rubber gasket all the way down. You’ll see the place when you go to change the filter.
Once you have finished, you can be pleased that you have done you and your car a big favor. You have just saved yourself some money by doing it yourself and you have helped your car run more efficiently.
