Every year, top 24 wave surfers are notified from all over the world in advance and they are called to participate when the conditions are suitable for the competition.

The surfers are given about 24 hours to get ready and to look each other in a bodily and psychologically challenging race. It happens very rarely that the invited competitors refuse the call. A team of the umpires is appointed to judge the performance of every surfer individually and they are offered a score out of ten. Generally, surfers are marked according to the dimension of the waves they surf and the excellence of their maneuvers in the journey. The World Qualifying Series also organizes the surfing competitions.
