Low-fat recipe Ingredients:

2 cups of low fat cream

4 egg yolks

85 g (1/3 cup) of castor sugar

2 bananas

2 teaspoons of ground ginger

Low fat recipe Method:

Preheat the oven to 300 F (150 C). Heat the cream to close to boiling point.

Beat together the egg yolks and 1/4 cup of castor sugar.

Pour the warm cream onto the egg mixture, whisking with a wire wisk as you go along.

Place ramekins in an ovenproof dish. Pour water into the big dish, up to filling about 1/2 inch up the outsides of the ramekin dishes.

Peel the bananas and slice them. Place the banana slices into each ramekin dish.

Sprinkle the ginger over the bananas, and pour the custard mixture over the bananas.

Next, place the ovenproof dish (with the water and ramekin dishes) into the over for sixty minutes. The tops will turn a golden brown, which will tell you that it is ready.

Pour the rest of the sugar in equal amounts on top of each custard dish. Start your broiler (grill) and place the custard dishes under it till the sugar melts and turns brown or use a brulee burner. Let it cool down, place in the refrigerator and chill them until nice and cold.

A low fat recipe does not all have to be about drab, dull, bland food, top-grade ingredients, low fat choices can make all the difference in the world. You can still ‘indulge’, in moderation – now isn’t that a paradox in the making!
