Outdoor Grilling Techniques
Grilling is not just a way of cooking food but an art of cooking food over fire. Call it BBQ or grilling, preparing for it and doing it can be a real fun if you know some ways of doing it properly. Though a simple process, grilling does require some techniques to make the food taste delicious. Preparing The Grill
The first step in doing grilling is to prepare the grill. Whatever type of grills you use, be it kettle shaped grills or gas grills, you will need lava rock or porcelain coated metal bars for easy grilling preparation. Keep the following things in mind while preparing the grills:
* Keep extra charcoal, tongs, basting brush, aluminum foil and stiff wire grill brush handy while preparing to grill.
* Make sure to arrange the coals in a way that there are different levels of heat available for the grill.
* Brush the grill with a little oil before grilling to make the heat last longer on the grill and it will also prevent the food from sticking.
Cleaning The Grill
Once you have learnt about how to prepare the grill, it is time now to know how to clean the grill. Use the following tips in mind to clean your grill for a clean and tasty food:
* Don’t use soap and water for cleaning the grill, as it may spoil the seasoning of your grill surface.
* Only use a stiff grill brush to clean the grill before grilling.
* If you don’t have a grill brush, you aluminum foils to clean the grill.
* In case you are using charcoal for grilling, then empty the left over and burnt charcoal after the grill gets cooled.
Controlling The Temperature
It is equally important to know how to control temperature in the grill. Your food won’t taste the way you want to make it taste if you don’t control the temperature properly. So, here are some ways of controlling the right temperature for grilling:
* Spread your briquettes in a single layer evenly and cook it for about 1 hour.
* You can then add few more briquettes and calculate the time accordingly for grilling.
* Remember, not to cook on high flame as it will cook the food from outside and not from inside.
* Use the fire method to cook for 30-40 minutes for delicious grilled food.
Flavoring The Fire
The most important thing to learn for grilling is to flavor the fire. You can experiment the way you feel to make your food taste as per your liking by flavoring the fire. Here are some ways of doing so:
* Once the fire for grill is ready, feel free to add some fresh herbs or a variety of hardwood chips for additional flavor to your food.
* You can choose from Oak, Apple, Alder, Hickory and Cherry woods to flavor your grill.
* Don’t use wood scraps from construction sites for grilling, as it will make the food smell horrible.
