Repurpose Content From Audio To Podcasts
While considering the various formats that you may want to repurpose your content into, you may have heard of blog posts, ebooks, online articles and podcasts being mentioned as a few possible options. While all others sound familiar and doable to you, the concept of a podcast may seem a little new. Let us quickly explain to you how easy and effective it is to repurpose your content, particularly the audio content into a podcast.
To begin with, let us understand what a podcast is. A podcast is just an audio file created in an MP3 format. The advantages of presenting your information or audio content in the form of an MP3 file are as follows. For one, these files can be easily made available to interested visitors. You could allow them to download it directly from your website or place the file on a CD which can then be mailed to an interested audience, all for a nominal amount. Secondly, when your content is conveniently available as a podcast, more people will listen to it on devices that they are most comfortably with, be it an iPod or from the computer.
Where will the content for the podcast come from? Simple – from audio content that you already have. It is possible that you have been giving talks or making presentations at many conferences and seminars. You may also have been conducting teleseminars or webinars on the topic where your professional expertise lies. More often than not, these talks or teleseminars go on for about 60-70 minutes. The audio recordings of these talks, presentations, teleseminars or webinars will now be repurposed to form the content of your podcasts.
It is best that you divide the audio recordings of 60 minutes into brief audio files in Mp3 format, running into 10 to 15 minutes. Make sure each file contains a relevant piece discussion – you can now add a brief introduction regarding what the podcast is about and a quick summary, requesting listeners to come back for more. Once you have your podcasts ready, you can upload them onto your website from where they can be downloaded or you could make them available through an RSS (really simple syndication). When the podcasts are available for download, your listeners will be informed through their RSS program. They can then retrieve the podcast automatically and listen to it at their convenience on a device they are most comfortable with – be it an iPod, MP3 player or just the desktop computer.
In order to make information about the podcast available through RSS, you will need to create a special file that contains the instructions for the file to be sent as and when the user’s program requests for it. You can then upload this file, also known as the RSS feed and wait for your listeners’ requests.
By just repurposing the audio content in the form of easy to access podcasts, you are leveraging your content to reach out to a wider audience.
