Speed Up Your Handheld PC

Just like a computer whose performance depends on the various hardware and software components it has, the performance of a pocket PC depends on its hardware and software components. Although a new pocket PC will give a fast performance, its performance will eventually degrade with continuous use. Regular speed and stability issues have always been a worrisome issue for pocket PC users. Recognizing various problems that are faced by the users of Pocket PC users, Microsoft has launched various repair tactics and instructions to help its users in resolving performance issues.

If you are a new user who is facing problems with his pocket PC, you can use the guidelines given below to maintain your pocket PC and ensure its optimum performance.

Improve Performance By Increasing Display Cache: By increasing the value of glyph cache, users can easily improve the performance of their pocket PCs with the help of tweaking these registry settings. While doing this will consume more system memory, it will help improve your system speed to a great extent.

  • Open the registry editor in Pocket PC and write the following:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMGDIGLYPHCACHE.
  • In the values that are now created, change the default 8192 to 32768.

Disable Animation: Just like computer systems, graphics in windows pocket PC also consumes an increased amount of RAM. While there is a way to increase the RAM of your PC, you will not be able to do so in a pocket PC. If you want to increase the processing speed of your pocket PC, you are advised to switch off your windows animation from within the registry itself. Although doing so will make your pocket PC look mundane, this will improve its performance and speed.

  • Open your registry editor in the Pocket PC and type the following:
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEMGWEMenu
  • Once done, you will have to change the value of this entry of “AniType” from the default 6 to 0. Dong so will not only disable the menu animation, it will also increase the performance of your computer.

Do not minimize: Minimizing is an interesting feature of windows Pocket PC. By allowing a user to minimize a certain application, Pocket PC allows a user to work upon two different kinds of applications at a single time. Just by checking the system resources window, you can easily check the whether your system is having enough system memory for decent performance or not. While application minimize feature is worthy for Pocket PC systems with higher processing power, if your pocket PC is facing speed problems, you should resort to closing applications rather than minimizing them.
Clear Unused Clutter: Various applications installed in a system execute themselves and take the required system resources. While these system resources are used by the applications installed in a system, other much useful applications are not left with enough system resources to work efficiently. For improving the performance of your pocket PC, you are required to uninstall every program that is not used by you. Doing this will not only free the hard disk, it will also create space in the system memory and thus will run applications faster.
