Gum Diseases And Oral Health
Gum Diseases And Oral Health
Health, as they say, is wealth. In this day and age of expensive medical care, that statement feels right in more than just one way. But no matter what, it is of utmost importance that we keep our body as healthy as possible. And while most often when we think of health we think of the usual suspects such as the heart, our blood pressure and such, we must not forget about other health issues, such as our oral health.
Oral health is one of the most crucial aspects of our health. The United States already deals with millions of patients who suffer from various forms of oral health issues which can be as serious as cancer. What is even stunning is the fact that these diseases that plague many millions the world over have easy and simple ways in which it can be prevented. However, once it begins it can be quite tricky to treat. Gum diseases of all kind are also a constant problem.
So what are the things to watch out for? Well, for children between the ages of 2 to 15, cavity is a prevailing problem. When there is cavity and decay in one’s teeth, a lot of problems begin surfacing, starting with pain and being as severe as oral disfigurement and a blow to a child’s confidence or self esteem. Adults too are severely affected by the cavity and decay problem. Most adults in America, as much as 90% of those who are 40 years of age or older, suffer from tooth decay and many of them lose all their teeth by the age of 60 because it this very problem. Oral cancer patients itself are not as many in numbers as those who suffer from cavity, but it is surely more dangerous, even fatal.
Gum disease is the same too. They are cause by bacteria when we don’t give out mouth regular cleanings.
There are several simple ways of preventing these health problems that you can take upon individually for your own sake. Using fluorides is one thing you can do. In fact, in many parts of the United States, fluoride is mixed in the water it self so that people have automatic access to it, as it has qualities that drastically push off the chances of cavity or tooth decay. Using toothpastes that explicitly declare that they have good fluoride in them would also be good.
Using dental floss to clean in between your teeth after meals, particularly dinner is advised too. And always brush, that is to say not obsessively but at least once in the morning and then a second one before bed. Washing off food particles from your mouth will work greatly towards preventing the generation of bacteria that cause oral diseases. All of these methods work to maintain a generally clean oral health and fight off all kinds of gum diseases and tooth decays. Not smoking or chewing tobacco is another great way to prevent oral diseases as tobacco use is known to cause all sorts of health problems including oral as well as throat and lung cancer. And of course, go to the dentist if possible at least once. Yes, it is expensive but if you have insurance then it shouldn’t be a problem. Better pay the dentist than pay with your health, wouldn’t you say?
