Double Boiler: Third thing required for reusing old candles is a double boiler. Remember that making candle from an old candle is not an easy task, you need to take all the precautions. Double boiler is used for precaution, as heating the wax or the old candle directly in a single boiler might put the boiler on a fire. So, using a double boiler is advisable, as the temperature remains in control due to water in the first boiler and only the wax melts without any danger.

Candle Wicks: Another important thing required for reusing old candles is the candlewick. Since, it is due to the consumption of the wick in the old candle, you are not able to use the candle completely, so you obviously need it while recycling the same candle.  These candlewicks can be easily bought from any craft store and you can trim it according to the need.

Procedure:

  • First of all, melt the old candle wax in a double boiler over medium or low heat. Keep stirring the wax to melt it slowly and to prevent the fire. Use a wooden spoon to stir it.
  • Now, when the wax melts, pour it in the desired molds. Again, be a little creative to get the best shapes for your candles.
  • Next step is to make a candlewick by cutting it to the size of the candle mold. Remember to leave about 2 to 5 inches of the wick and place the wick in the center of the melted candle in the mold.
  • Leave the melted candle in the mold to set until it is cool.
