World Of Warcraft, the Long Road to Glory

World Of Warcraft, the Long Road to Glory

Remember the classic song by Cat Stevens, ‘Where will the children play?’ Well, you can rest assured he wasn’t thinking of the on the computer or in gaming zones all over the world, playing in a virtual world! But that’s just what the phenomenon World of Warcraft has proven.

Back in 1994, a company by the name of Blizzard Entertainment released it’s a computer game called Warcraf: Orcs & Humans. A strategy action game by nature, it was in the mid1990s that a lot of such games were developed and launched, including Red Alert: Command & Conquer. 10 years later, Blizzard Entertainment released the World of Warcraft, a ‘Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game’ (MMPRPG) and now they can proudly say that they are the makers of one of the largest online gaming phenomenon. Today, they have 9 million online players all over the world, of which more than two million are in the United States alone and over a million in Europe and a staggering three million plus gamers in just China itself!

It is not difficult to understand why the game has become such a phenomenon. It has a legacy and its fun. They have been able to consistently improve their graphics and included out of the world ideas in the game. And most importantly, they have developed a great online gaming platform

True that the World of Warcraft, or WoW as it is popularly known, suffered a bad patch when the game was finally released in 2004, three years after the release was first announced. But the glitches that created the bad press were quickly overcome and the game itself sold like hot cakes.

Keep in mind that the World of Warcraft is the fourth instalment of the Warcraft series since 1994. So the story line has sort of maintained a theme too. The World of Warcraft picks up at the World of Azeroth and the story is a continuation of the The Frozen Throne, which was the third Warcraft in the installment.

Since its release, World of Warcraft has also won several gaming awards and the computer game has been developed into a franchise of collecting cards, board game and other products.

The game is quite addictive and you can find various patches on the internet that allow you to add on to the gaming experience. And the game is compatible with Windows as well as Mac’s OX system. In either system, it requires a free space of 6 GB on the hard drive, 512 RAM or higher with a 32MB video ram and a video card or an ATI or NVIDIA. The game was designed by Rob Pardo, Jeff Kaplan and Tom Chilton and when you play it online you will need an internet connection at a speed of at least 56 kilobytes per second or higher.  And it can be played with either your computer’s keyboard or the house. If you haven’t tried it yet, but you enjoy computer gaming, take it to a new level with the World of Warcraft. The CD pack comes with 4 disc for regular edition and 5 for special edition but the DVD version has only 1 disc. So log on and become an avatar.
