Apart from playing such a major role in maintaining the cholesterol levels in your body, fiber also has a large role to play in the battle against diabetes.  The diet that is fiber rich enables makes the food break down and generate sugar gradually. Since this breakdown is not rapid or abrupt, it helps the body to keep the sugar levels in control. This is a great way to keep diabetes away from you! 

The benefits of a fiber rich diet do not end there. The researchers at Tufts University in Boston have concluded that fiber helps to keep your blood pressure in control too. The experiment was conducted on a few people who were made to follow a diet rich in fiber content for a period of six weeks. The people witnessed an amazing lowering of their blood pressure. Their systolic pressure dropped by almost 7 points. This led the team to conclude the fiber plays a major role in checking the insulin levels in the body. The creation of insulin is connected to blood pressure. The insulin formation occurs in the pancreas during digestion. If the rate of sugar absorption is very high, the insulin levels automatically increase. This sudden increase in insulin levels results in increasing blood pressure. Since fiber enables a gradual breakdown of sugar, the insulin formation can also be quite relaxed, thereby keeping the blood pressure under control as well.     
 
If you want to stay healthy and keep your cholesterol levels, blood pressure and diabetes under control, you must embrace the fiber rich diet. Ensure that your diet consists of food rich in fiber. Vegetables and fruits are generally rich in fiber. A few examples are squash, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, sprouts, beans, spinach, brussel, endive, grapefruit, apples, bananas, pineapples or coconuts.
