Artificial Lighting for House Plants

We all know that plants live on a diet of water, light, and soil and it is equally true for houseplants. We can easily provide soil and water to the houseplants but we cannot provide light to houseplant directly and this may affect their growth. However the requirement of light of every plant is different. Some need more light and other needs lesser light. Houseplants that are generally located in the long dark galleries, around the corners, in the closed rooms receive lesser of light. Such plants are often low on health which is visible in the form of infirmity and poor strength of overall structure. Conditions are slightly better for those houseplants that are near the windows, door or some sort of entrance. So what can be done to improve the lightning condition indoors so that houseplants do get the proper amount of the light? There are many practical ways to feed the houseplants with the artificial light.

* You need few light bulbs and lamps. It is scientifically proved that plants need the full spectrum of light for full development. For example if a plant is kept in the red color lamp then it will grow tall and long only. From this point we can understand that the houseplants should be kept in the white color lamp since white light is the combination of the entire spectrum.
* Incandescent bulb can be used for the good physical growth of the plants as these bulbs give orange and red lighting which promote growth. But care should be taken that over exposure should not happen. These incandescent bulbs emit heat which would burn the houseplant.
* Halogen can be used for the showcasing purpose. Since halogen also gives colored light so it will substitute the need for the required light. But the same rule applies to the halogen since that they also give strong light. So care should be taken that the distance between houseplant and halogen is moderate.
* Use Fluorescent lamps. They give out white spectrum light. It creates day like environment for the plant. Also the heat factor is also low in this arrangement. The red color for growth and blue color for lushness are present in the fluorescent light.
* Metal halides and Sodium vapor lamps are ideal to illuminate houseplants. Sodium vapor light provides the maximum spectrum of the white light. Sodium vapor lamp is a very powerful lamp so it is ideal for the large houses and mansions. In markets light meters are available to check the amount of artificial light.
* To enhance the light effect in the house you can use the mirrors to reflect the light on the plant. Few mirrors can be arranged in such a method that they reflect and focus the sunlight from outside.

Artificial lightning methods are quite beneficial to increase the development of the plant. Initially the growth is small but sure. Technical expertise is also available on the internet and in the botanical manuals which you can use to give another lease of life to your dying plant.
