Bonsai is a Japanese word which refers to the art of growing trees in small sizes by making use of various equipments and skill. The trees, which have small leaves and attractive branches are selected and are grown in small containers. Bonsai trees can be shaped according to your wish only you need the necessary skill for doing it. Even you require skill for watering the plants. You should be aware of the right amount of water needed for your tree, too much water or too less water will affect the tree. For shaping the tree, you need adequate knowledge of  cutting the right branches, right roots and selecting the right bonsai pots. There are two main styles of bonsai trees they are:

* The upright style is the style in which the trees grows strait upright
* The other is cascading style is the style in which the trees lie near the base of the pot
The upright style, slant and raft style are the styles of cutting the trunk. By implementing these styles the tree looks more attractive. Some other styles include Root over rock style and the literati style which are not commonly used. 

Along with the selection of the trees the bonsai pots play a vital role. It is important to find the right size and the right design which suits your tree. With the growing popularity of the bonsai trees number of companies which produce the bonsai pots have come up. The markets are flunked with different types of attractive pots of attractive designs.

The mica bonsai and the ceramic bonsai pots are the most commonly used pots. They come variety of shape and sizes some of the common include octagon, oval, dished and rectangular. In the ancient Chinese tradition hand made pots were used on large scale. Even today hand made pots with excellent sculpture on it are available in the market, the only disadvantage is that these pots are more costly than  others. Here are some handy tips for choosing the right pot:

–    Right color of pot should be selected which matches the color of the foliage. There should be some matching color or design between the pot and the tree. The leaves of certain trees change their color in different seasons so it is important to know the color of the foliage and according you should  choose the color of the pot.
–    Usually the diameter or the width should be similar to the area occupied by the branches. It is also essential to determine the correct water level by which the tree can get adequate supply of water for survival.
–    Try to select the pot which will harmonize with the tree your planning to plant. Try not to opt for bonsai pots which have over elaborated designs. 
–    If you have a water land pot then the diameter of these pots should be higher than the normal ones. Water land pots are better option for those who are looking more creative as the water land pots are much more creative and attractive than others.
