From The Kitchen To The Heart
While fancy edible gift hampers and baskets seem to be the order of the day, friends and family members will appreciate home made gifts more. Similarly homemade edible gifts are also perfect gifts for colleagues and for your teachers. They carry a great personal touch and are a nice way of showing how much you appreciate their support. Here are some nice ideas for homemade edible gifts.
Edible Gifts in a Mug
Actually this turns out to be not one but two gifts, making it all the more special. You can present a nice mug that can be used to drink coffee, tea or soup in. You could pack it up with different ingredients like coffee packets, gourmet tea packets or all the ingredients needed to make a nice, healthy cup of soup.
You may also try something different by baking a sweet inside the mug you plan to present. Of course, you will need to pick up something that is safe in both types of ovens – traditional and microwave and is food safe. For baking purposes, it is better that you choose mugs that can hold at least 12 ounces. Your sweet will bake better if the mug has straight sides.
Once you have finished baking, you could wrap it in clear wrap or colored cellophane paper and tie it up with some ribbon. Add a gift tag mentioning what it contains and when it should be eaten by.
Edible Gifts in a Basket
Baskets seem a very natural choice when it comes to presenting edible gifts. Pack your baked goodies inside a basket and as before wrap the whole thing in clear wrap or colored cellophane and put a little bow on top. Even if you do not have time to make or bake something at home, you could always purchase your recipient’s favorite sweets from a bakery and pack it in the basket with a lot of small packages of candies or cookies to fill up any empty space.
You could pick out a basket of any type – made of wicker or wire. Make sure that you get the right size so that your gift items fit in well in the basket. If your budget is limited then give a visit to the local dollar store. You will be surprised at the variety of wrapping papers, ribbons, paper napkins and other items you can find there.
Edible Gifts in a Jar
If you keep aside unusual or pretty looking jars after they have been used, you can reuse them to pack some of your edible gifts. The advantage of gifts in a jar is that they are easy to store and the jars can be reused. For gifts like cookies, muffins, scones, etc, jars are perfect containers.
While packing, make sure that you cover the top of the jar with a piece of fabric that is bigger than the mouth of the jar. You can now tie this fabric with satin or curly ribbon. If you are packing merely the ingredients for a soup, say, you might want to include a note containing instructions on how to make it.
