Fundraising For NonProfits: Sustaining Funds
For non-profit organizations, donor funds are a key source of financial resources. If you are feeling bad that you organization is constantly having to look for funds, don’t worry about it; even the United Nations seeks and receives grants and other assistance from outside sources every now and them. However, it is not just enough to get funds once or twice, unless you that is all you need. But chances are that is not the case, so you must build the foundation for your organization to secure a way of sustainable fundraising for your non-profit organization.
The process to seeking grants for fundraising is quite similar for most cases; articulate your motives, find donor organizations or individuals interested in supporting it or who also support it or have in the past, and start the collection process from those who are interested. The means of doing this can range from opening a secure donation form on your website, or using the phone or mail service to solicit donations. Then there’s always organizing fundraising events or just small community drives.
However, if you want to secure funding for a long time, there are several things you must consider at all times. First thing, make sure you don’t slack off on work, that is be consistent with what your organization is doing and the quality of the work too. And when you are done with the projects, make sure the reports you produce and submit to your major funding source is very articulate and detailed and clearly written. Investing in freelance desk editor might be a good idea too, to make sure the report is as error free as possible in the language.
Donors also usually like to see that the organization seeking fund is trying to get additional funding on its own effort too, by seeking independent donors or organizing events etc as mentioned earlier. Basically you have to do more than just send proposals to big organizations to get funds; you have to take some initiative on your own too.
So you’ve got the consistent work and a good report down, and you are making additional efforts to generate additional funds. What can you do next? Well, no body can do with out public relations. Every time you do events, or when your non-profit organization begins or complete projects, big or small, make sure you get as much media coverage for it as possible. This serves many purposes. First, seeking your own organization’s work being written about in the papers or being covered by media in general is a good morale boost to the organization’s team members. But at the same time its not just the public who knows about your work, but the people and organizations who are making it possible for your organization to stay afloat and do these good things. Also, those people or organizations will also be glad to see that your organization is actually doing the things it had said it would in the proposal. And don’t forget to mention or give credit to the people or organizations that made it possible for you to the project in the press statements.
There you have it, some basic but critical things to consider while running your non-profit organization so that you not only get funds, but do so in a sustainable manner.
