The GED Test is actually a series of five tests. Put together the actual exam-time is over 7.5-hours. It is a timed exam that requires study, planning and preparation in subject areas, both knowledge, basics, skills, broad, general, in-depth and specific criteria.

The test series includes study sectors and topic areas such as science, social studies, reading or language arts, writing and math.  These subject areas are assessed under separate cover.  You do not have to take all the tests at the same time. You can spread them out during a certain timeframe, given that you pass the other components etc. If you pass one section or part of the GED testing process/exam, you don’t have to take it again.

The math and writing tests are the ones that people tend to be the most apprehensive about. There is no reason for any discomfort of angst here.

For the science, social studies and reading tests, you can expect questions that are put together deliberately and intentionally in order to ascertain if you are able to read and comprehend what you are reading, understand, then apply it by demonstrating that you can pick the best answer from multiple options give you as possible choices or outcome. You pick the BEST answer, plain and simple, That is all there is really to it for this portion to get a passing grade. It is not designed to make you fail, rather succeed, embrace it, educate and empower yourself, hone and master your skills, practice and be ready to take your test on the day with the best you’ve got to give and you will easily pass.

If you can make sense of short passages of information, infer, evaluate, deduct, find the right answers, you can pass this portion of the GED. Getting and understanding information, following instructions, common sense and own judgment are all valuable skills that will help you increase your odds of passing the GED once and for all, right the first time. 

Memory and fundamental knowledge will get you far.

The math test for GED online study options, is where most spend the majority of their study time. For this subject area, you again will be faced with multiple-choice type questions and answers. There are two parts to this section. Expect twenty-five questions on each part, with 45 minutes allowed for each section. Basic math skills and abilities need to be learned, applied and honed, refreshment, refining and learning new if you are not aware of them covering areas such as (i) basic number operations (ii) basic algebra (iii) geometry, and some (iv) analysis of charts and data.

Some parts of this portion of the test might be done using a calculator, some not. There is a particular calculator approved for use – the Casio fx-260. Ensure that you know how to use it before you walk into the exam-hall and test center on the day of taking it.

Writing, English language mastery,  sentence structure, verb tense, punctuation and grammar, are next up. This is a two part test again, that also includes and essay, where your perspective, argument and explanation, point of view  has to be gotten across in a set amount of words (two-pager essay typically) organization, focus and development, synergy, spelling, grammar, punctuation, your choice of words and sentence structure all will contribute to your scoring.
