Is Organic Baby Food Good For Your Baby?
When it comes to their precious babies, every parent wants what is best for them and that holds true even when it comes to baby food. The ongoing debate about what kind of baby food is really good for one’s baby stems from this concern. Some strongly believe that organic food is the best possible food for their baby while many remain unconvinced. Let us look at both sides of the argument here.
Those who are strongly in favor of organic food feel that too many fruits and vegetables are being overexposed to pesticides with the result that there are pesticide residues in many of these farm produces. They feel that not only do these residues harm the human body but increasing use of pesticides is also causing irreparable damage to the environment. They therefore feel that at least when it comes to their babies, they do not want to take any chance and prefer buying organic food for them.
Many companies in fact, now use their own organically grown fruits and vegetables in making baby foods. They specifically state that no synthetic fertilizers or toxic pesticides were used in producing these crops. Further, there is very limited processing of the foods after harvesting. This is done to ensure that the fruits and vegetables retain their natural flavor. Many fear that the use of preservatives, synthetic fumigants and the irradiation process can cause much damage to the tastes of these foods. These companies even ensure that the meat and dairy products meant for use in baby food are from only those animals that have not been given any kind of antibiotics or growth supplements. Naturally one would expect the nutrients value in such organic baby food to be much more than the normally produced one.
However, it is a matter of concern that as of yet, there is no national standard for the certification for organic baby food to make the claim that it is far superior to ordinary baby food. Organic foods do tend to be a little pricey because for one it does cost more to manufacture them and the additional certification that is needed adds to the cost. However, consumers seem willing to pay exorbitant prices for baby food just because they are termed as organic baby food.
If you would like to purchase organic baby food for your young one, you could possibly find it in some of the major supermarkets or local food stores and you will certainly find them in health-food stores. Some organic food products can be found in the meat or cereal sections, which you could make into baby food.
Nowadays, most manufacturers have started reducing the number of added ingredients such as salt and sugar while many have stopped adding them all together. It is now up to you to decide, in consultation with your doctor, whether you would prefer to give your baby organic food or whether you are happy with giving her normal fruits and vegetables.
