Railslide or 50/50 Grind

The first slide that a snowboarder must know is the railslide or 5-/5- grind. These are the steps to be followed for this type of grind in snowboarding:

  • * Gather enough momentum and then ride towards the rail. Momentum is required so that you keep sliding non-stop in an effortless manner.
  • * Make sure to land with your board on sideways across the rail for the 50/50 grind. Also, remember not to force landing on the rail, as this may result in catching an edge or wiping it out. Rely on the gravity to do this task for you, just try to bring yourself down gently with enough momentum.
  • * You will then observe a change in your skiing speed, so try to maintain the balance. Remember the fact that on snow, wood is slower than metal.
  • * Lastly, have a check on your landing and be prepared to hop off the rail to ride or setup for the next trick.

Backside Lipslide

After learning to perform the railslide, you must know how to perform backslide lipslide. Given below are the steps to be followed for this type of slide in snowboarding:

  • * Remember to approach the rail from the left side if you have a goofy foot and from the right side if you have a normal foot.
  • * Once you have ollied on to the rail, try to turn your snowboard 90 degrees and then be in the front side position. Make sure to have a flat base and then put the whole weight on your front leg dropping the lead shoulder while looking over it during the slide.
  • * This is almost the end of this slide, so start squaring up your shoulders and ride away regularly.
  • * Try the backslip on a C-box, when you feel comfortable. Keep practicing this slide to be perfect.

  • * Then, ollie onto the box and prepare to start your boardslide. Make sure to be flat and keep your knees bent so as to be ready to switch frontboard.
  • * When you have completed half of this slide, rotate about 180 degrees and look over your shoulder while keeping your knees bent and putting your weight on foot.
