Colon and rectal cancer is the third most prevalent cancer among men and women.

According to the statistics, it is estimated that around 1, 50,000 people get afflicted by this disease. Around 50,000 people die each year because of colo rectal cancer.

In the recent years, there have been major developments in the medical science, which now helps in the early detection of colorectal cancer. Colo- rectal cancers help to locate the polyps and also in the removal of polyps.

These polyps are quite harmless initially, but with passage of time they turn cancerous and become life threatening. 

We all know prevention is better than cure, according to the American cancer society; there are certain things that they have come up with, that can help us to prevent colo rectal cancer. They are as follows.

Get a test done. Generally colo rectal cancer happens after the age of 50, the main reason is that it takes this much time, for the polyps to turn cancerous, but in case a person has a family history of colo rectal cancer then he shouldn’t take chances, he should get a test much earlier.

Eat right and exercise on a regular basis. The American center for cancer has recommended that we should avoid the intake of food that is high in fat and low in fiber. Intake of sugary food and red meat is a strict no.

One should take at least 5 helpings of fruits and vegetables. Eating right is important, abut it should be accompanied with exercise. 30 minutes exercise, can help you to stay fit and keep a majority of illness at bay.

Avoid smoking. Most of us are aware that smoking causes lung infection, but most of us are unaware that smoking increases our chances of acquiring colo rectal cancer by a good 40 percent.

Many  times, people seem to question if drinking excess tea or coffee causes colo rectal cancer. To answer this question, a research was done by the UK tea council; this council observed the eating and drinking habits of a group of men and women, this study started in 1980 and ended in 1988.

According to this study at the end of the period of observation around 1400 people contracted the disease. The researches found out that there was no sign or indication that tea or coffee drinkers were at a higher risk of getting the disease.

So we can safely conclude that drinking tea or coffee does not stimulate colo rectal cancer.

Although the above statement is true, but it is also true that people who drink decaffeinated coffee lower their risks of getting a colo rectal cancer as compare to other people who drink regular coffee.
