Liposuction For You

Liposuction has helped a lot of people feel good about themselves. A lot of people are very sensitive when it comes to their physical looks. These people would always want to look their best. Looking their best would mean maintaining a great figure that would make others take a second look. Many would try to follow a regular exercise regimen that would help them acquire and maintain a slim and great figure.

But there are other times that people may not be so successful in getting the figure that they want through exercise alone. There are some parts on the body that localized fat may not be contoured to one’s liking through exercise alone. Perfect body contouring may sometimes require the help of a medical operation to get straight through those unwanted localized body fat. Liposuction may just be the operation that you will need.

Liposuction is a procedure designed to remove excess and localized fat deposits in the body. These deposits can be almost anywhere on the body. They can be on the chest, stomach, arms, legs and even the face. Liposuction is primarily done in order to contour a patient’s body in order to come up with an ideal shape. Liposuction is usually done on those parts of the body where most localized fats are located that cannot be easily diminished by even the vigorous of exercise.

The ideal candidate for a liposuction procedure is a person of normal weight with one or several areas of excess localized fat deposits that cannot be eliminated despite an optimal diet and exercise regimen. Clinically obese patients are not good candidates for liposuction, though patients that are moderately overweight can take advantage of having the procedure done on them. But it must be understood that liposuction is not a means to losing weight. They are procedures done in order to contour the body by removing localized fat deposits.

Liposuction operations differ widely in their scope and management. Small to moderate size liposuction procedures can be performed under local anesthesia. Patients are given “twilight” intravenous pain medication and local tumescent fluid placement which is a mixture of saline (salt water), epinephrine (to control bleeding), and lidocaine (to numb the area). Large operations meanwhile are usually done in the hospital with the patient under general anesthesia in order to make the operation more comfortable and convenient.

The basic technique of liposuction is used in all patients undergoing any type of procedure. However, there are procedures that have been developed and refined with several variations of the procedure introduced. There is the Fluid Injection method where a medicated solution is injected into fatty areas of the body before the fat is removed. This is commonly used by most plastic surgeons today.

The fluid — a mixture of intravenous salt solution, lidocaine (a local anesthetic) and epinephrine (a drug that contracts blood vessels) — helps the fat to be removed effortlessly, reduces blood loss and provides anesthesia during and after surgery. Fluid injection also helps to reduce the amount of bruising after surgery. There also is Ultrasound-Assisted Lipoplasty (UAL) which is a method that requires the use of a special cannula that produces ultrasonic energy. As this vibrating equipment passes through the areas of fat, the energy explodes the walls of the fat cells, liquefying the fat.

The fat is then removed with the traditional liposuction technique.
