Projector Reviews: How To Buy One

The video projector has been used for a long time as both a tool for presentation in businesses as well as a top quality home theater system.  These days the video projector is becoming much more affordable to the average consumer.  There are different types of video projectors for you to choose from.  The three main types are Cathode Ray Tube (CRT), Digital Light Processing (DLP), and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).  There are also some variations such as the Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS), Digital Imaging Light Amplification (D-ILA, which has been developed by JVC), and the Silicon Crystal Reflective Display (SXRD, which has been developed by Sony).

Most people want a home theater projector so that they can watch DVD movies and sports.  If you watch a lot of television, buying an LCD/DLP projector might mean that you’re spending too much money since the lamp in the projector will have to be replaced after about 1,000 to 2,000 viewing hours.  As well, you’ll need to have a large room for the projector to get the optimum image size.  Look at the portability of the video projector.  A portable projector will allow you to not only to take it with you when you travel but will also make the installation and setup process that much easier.  Take a look at the different sizes of screens that are available to see what types of rooms and distances that they work best for.  If you buy a portable projector you can take it over to the relatives during the holidays for everyone to enjoy.

If the video projector doesn’t have enough brightness the image will be too soft and appear faded even when the room is completely dark.  Check to see what the ANSI lumens rating is on the projector.  A good rule of thumb is that a projector that has a 1,000 ANSI lumens rating or higher will have enough brightness for you to use as a home theater.  You’ll need more or less lumens depending on the size of the room and the distance the projector is from the screen.  Screens come in all different sizes, prices, and fabrics.  Every projector will function better with a certain type of screen so be sure to see what the manufacturer recommends.  You’ll want to take into account the viewing angle as well as how much ambient light there is in the room.  The distance of the projector from the screen will also be a factor to consider.  With so many different issues to consider buying a video projector for you home won’t be an easy task.  Take your time to review more than one projector before making a final choice.
