The video projector is a great way that you can have a big picture without having a big television. These days the video projector is much more affordable for the average consumer. One of the first things to note when looking for a video projector is finding the right type of projector for what you want to use it for. The two most common video projectors on the market are the DLP (Digital Light Processing) and LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). The LCD video projector offers you better brightness, display, and color saturation as well as images that are very detailed. The DLP video projector, on the other hand, has almost invisible pixels on the screen. The DLP video projector is also more portable and smaller than the LCD. If you don’t plan on moving the video projector from one room to another you might want to stick with the LCD video projector for the quality of pictures that it can provide. Keep in mind that there is a third type of video projector that is now on the market called the LCOS. The LCOS provides you with higher resolutions but will also cost you a lot more money. As well, the lamp life on the LCOS is less than that of an LCD or DLP video projector. This means that you’ll be paying a lot more in lamp replacements.
When buying a video projector the main things that you’ll want to look at are resolution and brightness. Determine ahead of time how many lumens you want in your video projector, such as hundreds to thousands. Talk to a professional about lumens but remember the general rule that brighter is most often better. A brighter video projector will let you see much better when there is light in the room. If you’re going to be using the projector in a dim office you’ll most likely be able to get by with about 1,000 lumens. On the other hand, if you’re going to be using the video projector in a bright room or large room, 3,000 lumens should be the minimum brightness you’re looking for.
Consider the weight of the video projector. If the projector is going to be mounted then a heavier projector will be acceptable, such as an eight pound or more projector. You’ll want a lighter projector, six pounds or less, if you’re going to moving the video projector around from one room to another or traveling with it. A six pound video projector is easy to carry around in a shoulder case. The above features should give you a starting point when it comes to looking for a video projector.
