Relax In Stationary Hammocks
The words “stationary” and “hammock” may sound a little contradictory to you. Especially if you’re used to thinking of a hammock as a rope swing strung between two trees, stationary hammocks may be new to you. These hammocks, known officially as four-point hammocks, are one of the most popular and stable forms of hammock, and are incredibly comfortable and usable for relaxing in the backyard or campsite.
Traditional hammocks have two points of attachment to a stand, tree or other anchor object. They swing back and forth, and are not known for their stability—or for being easy to get into and out of.
Four-point hammocks are very different. They’re also called portable hammocks, or camping hammocks. As the name suggests, four-point hammocks are attached to the stand at each of the four corners, making them very stable, but still hammock-like in their comfort.
But four-point hammocks are not the only alternative to two-point, traditional hammocks. You might try a three-point hammock, which has two points of attachment on one end of the swing but only one on the other, so that it sways more, like a traditional hammock, but has the stability of a four-point hammock.
You can also stabilize a traditional two-point hammock by running stabilizing straps from each corner of the hammock to the base, making it more solid and taking out some of the sway, while maintaining the cool appearance of a two-point hammock.
When you shop for stationary hammocks, you’ll find a surprising variety.
For instance, you will notice a lot of large, heavy-duty fabric hammocks with strong, durable stands. These are great for your backyard or deck, and are a permanent piece of deck furniture.
Camping hammocks are designed to fold up into your backpack for hiking in to your campsite, and set up quickly and easily once you’re there.
And in between the deck furniture hammocks and the camping hammocks you’ll find portable hammocks, which fold up for travel in your car or RV. These are also great for occasional outdoor use when you don’t want a permanent hammock on your deck or in your backyard.
If you’ve been wanting a hammock, but hesitated because you pictured swinging wildly in a rope hammock that you would have trouble getting in and out of, you’re in luck. While hammocks are still a very comfortable, soft and relaxing way to hang out on the deck, beach or campsite, they’re far more stable than they used to be.
Whether you choose a very stable four-point hammock or a still-stable but swaying three-point hammock, or modify your traditional hammock, you’ll appreciate having a more stable swinging bed. While hammocks are great for relaxing, you’ll feel more comfortable if you know that one wrong move is not going to pitch you out onto the ground. Being able to relax in a hammock without falling unceremoniously on your backside is yet another marvel of modern innovation, and one you will be very grateful for when you’re able to stand up easily from your stationary hammock.
