You can apply for a passport from a lot of places like the State Court, Municipal Offices and even National Libraries. Make sure you have the right documentation needed to save on time and effort. Note that the processing of the passport alone takes 4-6 weeks, after that even the visa’s have be to be given consideration, so plan accordingly. Make sure that you do so in a systematic order and avoid making a rush job out of it. It would save you a lot of time and anxiety.

Destination

Plan out and map the places you wish to visit and make a planned and organized list. Get a couple of travel books and journals to help you go along with the mapping. There is a lot to consider with the beaches of Brazil, Andes in Argentina, or perhaps a trip to the Mayan Ruins or even a spot of Mate (a type of tea only indigenous to the region) deep in the continent. Understand a bit of the culture-specific needs, language and attain a bit of understanding with what to expect. Once you have the destinations secured, only in accordance, you will have to secure the visas and permissions. If you like, also make arrangements for a guide to take you across the country.  Do this before hand and get the tickets only after you get the visas. Know that only with proper planning, will your trip be fun and full of frolic.

Travel

Once destination is decided, get the planes tickets to reach there. There are many options in airlines that fly internationally as well as domestically within the continent. This should be relatively easy as you can simply make a small comparative study online itself to choose and arrange it all. There is also the option of considering a combination of sea and land transport which would make the trip comparatively cheaper and help you make the journey through feel and instinct alone. Why not keep the flight for the return?
