Stop Hearing Loss In Children
Hearing loss is not only prevalent in people approaching towards old age, but it is also seen in children. It can be detected in children at a very young age. It is important to stop hearing loss in children at a young age and to prevent them from any other problems regarding hearing in future.
The most common cause of hearing loss in young children is exposure to loud noises. The sound can be classified as controllable and non-controllable. The sounds that can be controlled are controllable and those that cannot be controlled are non-controllable. High noise levels may bring about temporary or permanent damage to the sensory hair cells inside the cochlea. Following are some of the materials and guidelines for preventing exposure to loud noises:
* The appliances, vehicles and stereos produce noise that is detrimental to hearing, depending upon length of exposure and closeness to the source of the noise so direct exposure to some appliances should be reduced.
* Some computer games and toys or rock music concerts damage the hearing sensation. Therefore, it is vital to teach the children the hazards of loud noise exposure and instruct them to use ear protection whenever necessary to prevent their ears from exposure to loud noises.
* Loud music particularly that is played through the headphones can damage the ears. Listening to it for more than ten minutes can cause significant damage to the ears. So, if children are using them, they should be advised to turn down the volume before listening to it.
* You can determine the safe volume guidelines that your children should follow when they are listening to the headphones or any other similar devices. Make an effort to check that they adhere to these guidelines in order to stop hearing loss in children.
* You can make it a habit to your children to use the earplugs. Earplugs keep the ears protected and safe from the loud noises. See that the child wears the earplugs while riding a bicycle, mowing the lawn or practicing in the school band.
Another cause of the hearing loss in children is playing the musical instruments loudly. Therefore, children should be educated about the dangers of hearing loss due to the loud noises. You can teach them to protect and take care of their hearing ability. This is so because prevention is always better than cure. Hearing loss is a very serious problem in children that becomes harder to manage. This will make them suffer at school having a hard time to listen to the teachers as well as their friends. To stop hearing loss in children, observe the reactions of the child as soon as they begin to talk. The one with a hearing loss will have a hard time to learn to talk. If you find any such clues in your child, immediately consult your doctor. The sooner the problem is diagnosed; more are the chances to stop hearing loss in children and correct them, if any.
With the right treatment at the right time, they will be able to live a normal life, along with their friends and family. Otherwise, they will have to face a difficult time without the sense of hearing. It is always better to stop the hearing loss in children at an early stage and take steps necessary to prevent it.
