Tips For Burglar Alarm Installation
The complexity of the installation of a burglar alarm system depends on the type and size of the environment it is going to be placed in. In other words, the bigger the environment and the more the number of entry and exit points, the more complex will be the installation of the burglar alarm. Offices and stores usually have more complex alarm systems than homes. In fact, the alarm systems in offices and stores are also more closely monitored by the police as these places have a higher risk of potential robbery.
Depending on the complexity of alarm systems, most burglar alarm systems are installed by professionals from the company that the systems are bought from. However, since homes typically require much simpler alarm systems, there is a wide range of do-it-yourself alarm kits available in the market. These kits have all the components that are required for installing the alarm system. Further, if the instructions are meticulously followed, the burglar alarm system is easy to set up.
Here is a list of a few critical points that need to be kept in mind while installing your burglar alarm system:
1. Identify the entry points in your house: This is the first step towards installing your burglar alarm system and perhaps the most critical. You need to make a note of all the entry points in your house; this would include not just doors but also windows, fire exits, etc. Doing so will help you determine the number of sensors required for the installation.
2. Identify the type of alarm system: Check whether the alarm system bought by you is simply a burglar alarm or a combination of a burglar and a fire alarm. In the latter case, there will be two different types of sensors and the alarm circuit will be more complex.
3. Identify a place for the control panel: During the installation of the burglar alarm system, you will need to identify a strategic place to install the alarm control panel.
While installing your burglar alarm, the first component that you would install would be the alarm buzzer. Ensure that you place the buzzer in a place that makes it easy to spot by the thieves and from where the sound heard would be the loudest. After all, you are installing this system to scare away the potential thieves. Further, if you are placing the buzzer outside the house, ensure that it is protected well from extreme heat and moisture.
Next, you would install the sensors. These need to be placed carefully in the window and door edges. Ensure that the magnet and the sensor are placed at an appropriate distance from each other. If they are too close, the magnet will snag on the sensor, and if they are far away, the sensor will not be able to pick up the signals from the magnet.
Next, mount the wires neatly and integrate the rest of the components into the control panel. Finally, open and close all entry points one after another and test whether the systems are working properly.
