Using Your iPhone
So, your friends, cousins and your boss have all convinced you that you have to buy an iPhone. They tell you, proudly displaying their own iPhone, what a great productivity tool and cool toy it is. However, having bought an iPhone, you are now a little confused about where to start and how best to make use of this latest gadget. In fact, even if you have used iPod earlier, you may find that it takes a bit of getting used to before you are comfortable with the iPhone.
The iPhone is no doubt one of the most sophisticated gadgets that mobile computing technology has produced to date. And yet, even with a great user interface, a non-techie newbie could do with some help on how to use the iPhone. Here is a quick guide that will help you use your iPhone more efficiently.
- Deleting individual emails in an iPhone needs nothing more than a click of the finger. Select the email you want deleted, swipe your finger across the mail and then hit delete. You would like to do a bulk delete – no problem, again. Just check off the emails you would like deleted and then hit delete.
- If you would like to quickly scroll to the top of a page in your browser, all you need to do is tap on the top bar of the screen. This bar, in fact, also mentions the batter status of the iPhone and displays the current time.
- If you are carrying out a backup or sync, you will need to take out your SIM card to disable calls being received on the phone as the backup or sync operation is going on. If you do not take this precaution, any call will merely interrupt the process and you will have to start all over again. You could use the SIM in another phone and take the calls while your iPhone is being backed up or synced. Another option is to use the Airplane Mode that allows you to turn off sending and receiving abilities, including that of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and of course, phone calls.
- A double-quick way in which you can add a period to your text messages is to double-tap the space bar when you come to the end of a sentence. You do not need to change pages to insert periods.
- Nowadays, kids can access the Internet, not just through the computer but also through their cellphones and of course, the iPhone. If you have an iPhone that your kids use or your child has his or her own iPhone, you have to make sure that you have set proper parental controls on the phone so that they are restricted to accessing sites that are safe for children.
- The Safari browser allows you to save an image that you like very easily. All you need to do is just press and hold the image. Immediately, you will be shown a menu asking you if you would like to save the image. Clicking on ‘Save Image’ will save the image, for you to use.
