Vacation Package Deals: Avoid the Email Spam Scam
Vacation Package Deals: Avoid the Email Spam Scam
Have you ever been surfing along the internet when a brilliant pop up ad comes up? It is advertising the trip of a life time at an unbelievable price. You phone up the number in the ad and feel pressured to buy right now. The best thing to do is to put the phone down and block that add. The chances are good that this is one of the many email spam scams that bilk consumers out of money year after year.
Email spammers are very cunning and they seem to get better every year. One of the key areas they work in is selling bogus travel deals. There are some ways in which you can protect yourself against these scammers. Generally, all it takes is some common sense.
The first thing you should do is look at what is being offered. If it sounds too good to be true that it most likely is. No one sells trips for 10 dollars, it just isn’t done. Legitimate travel companies will offer reduced prices but they won’t loose money. Keep that in mind.
The next thing you should do is to see if there is a phone number listed. If there isn’t then delete it. Never do business with any company, travel or otherwise that does not have a fixed address or phone number. Never give them your credit card details. Once they have these you could be taken for a serious ride.
If there is a phone number listed, phone it up. Pay close attention to the sales pitch and beware of high pressured sales techniques. If they want you to purchase at that minute then hang up. Once they have your money, you are not likely going to get it back.
Many of us do business online everyday. Most of us with relatively little hassle. One general rule when purchasing online is to only do it with companies you know and trust. Never give out credit card or bank information to any company that you are not familiar with. Take sometime and do your research. If the offer is legitimate, it will likely still be there in a few days time.
By taking your time, and doing some research, you will avoid joining the thousands of people that loose money through bogus travel scams. Remember, you get what you pay for. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
