Vacation Package Deals: Last Minute Travel

How many times has the weekend arrived and you suddenly realize you have no plans? You may have a 3 day holiday weekend approaching and think, “it may be nice to get away for a few days”. Well you’re not alone. Millions of people annually take weekend trips away. Many of these people book their trip at the very last minute. In fact, those who book last minute tend to save quite a substantial amount of money compared to those travelers that book way in advance; however there are some trade offs. In this article, we will look at the pros and cons of booking your holiday last minute.

A definite plus to last minute travel is the money you can save. Travel agencies and tour companies scramble to sell off their left over seats and rooms. It isn’t uncommon to receive savings of 80 percent on some of these packages. However, there is a down side. These are usually the left overs that weren’t sold. You may end up with a small room or have to fly in the center aisle of the plane. However, if you’re willing to put up with a few small inconveniences then you should still be able to enjoy yourself.

Another downside is that these last minute deals are usually non-refundable. Make sure you understand the terms and conditions before you book. Make absolutely sure that you can make the journey as well. Once they have your money that is it. If you have to cancel for some reason, you won’t get it back.

Finally, make sure you know what you are buying. A last minute deal may show a low price but it will likely be at one of the cheaper hotels. If you want to upgrade it may cost several hundred dollars.

Last minute travel can be an excellent way to save money and have a romantic get away. The buyer just has to be sure what they are getting. Make sure you understand what you are purchasing and be prepared to put up with a few inconveniences. Otherwise, have a great time.
