Vacation Package Deals: The Weather
In August of 1992 some family friends had gotten married. They had booked a Caribbean cruise Months ahead of time, for which they had to fly through Miami. They left the day after their wedding for what they thought was going to be the honeymoon of a lifetime. Fate played a cruel trick on them because the ended up flying straight into hurricane Andrew. Theirs being the last flight in they were immediately rushed to a Red Cross disaster shelter where the spent the majority of their trip.
Fortunately for them, they had booked this holiday through a very reputable travel agency. They had bought travel insurance and received most of their money back. They were lucky. Many people find themselves in this situation yearly. Sometimes circumstances beyond your control prohibit you from going to your desired location.
So what do you do when this happens? No one can control the weather so many travel agencies just adopt the tough luck attitude. If you find your trip has been cancelled through circumstances beyond your control, you may want to try to make alternate arrangements. You maybe able to book things last minute for quite a reduction. In fact, many who book holiday’s last minute save much more than those who book in advance? Many tour operators can companies just want to sell the left over seats.
You should also look into travel insurance. Many times people end up getting all of their costs refunded when they purchase a policy. It’s also useful if you end up having to pay out of pocket for a hotel that you didn’t expect.
Finally, when you do return from the holiday or trip that you managed, the first person you should call is your travel agent. Explain what happened and hopefully you get some satisfaction.
Experiences like this happen to people all the time. Don’t let it put you off of traveling. Just chalk it up to life and things that happen.
