Volleyball Can Be Fun
Change is required, whether it is a routine office work or highly demanding sport. What makes people’s life dull is that, they allow themselves to get into a rut. Thus, one of the challenges faced by every sports coach is converting practices into fun zones. Where recurring drills are required for developing proficiency and muscle power, it can so happen that players form a routine and it just gets mechanical for them, leaving least to think for.

As a substitute, coaches should regularly alternate drills and thus, add fun. What it does is, it puts new energies into the players and also keeps them alert and sharp. Here are few of the drills of volleyball that lead to fun.

The “service” starts here.
1. Bingo Volleyball
For the initial fun drills you need a large piece of paper and a marker. Taking into consideration most of the important skills, a bingo card should be drawn on the paper sheet. Each of the skills should be filled in respective squares and posted near to court.

Now, team should be divided into groups with each having six members. The teams should compete versus each other like a regular match but with a slight difference. Every time they execute a move successfully, they win a spot on the card. It’s just that, they need to call aloud which move they are going to perform.

The final objective is to make a line of different moves on the card. Once this is done, they should cheer “bingo”. The moral here is to make them work on all the moves and not get them stuck them up with similar ones that they already know.

2. Hitting the Deck
It’s not always “hit the ball” scenario in volleyball. It needs different expertise as well which generally happen to be underestimated. Players should not be afraid of falling and hitting the floor. That’s what the agenda here is. This might help the players conquer their hesitation.

What can be done to keep this spirit in the players is that, they should be made to jog. Then on a whistle or any other response, they should drop on floor immediately. Even a rule can be laid that the player who lands last would be straight away out of the field to keep the fun going.

3. Building Defensive Toughness
Another of the fun drills is making an unusual team pair by putting strong ones on one side and weaker ones on other side. The strong ones should outnumber the weak ones in team combination of 6-on-2. Thus, the sharper ones have an upper hand initially and the weaker ones would start thinking about their game. This is not an effort to discredit them but to bring the best out. This will help them improve their defense mechanisms and results can be visible in a short time.
