For those of you who still don’t know what American Idol is, lets just say it’s a reality TV show which draws out ambitious singers from all across the country to try out their luck in front of the critical eye of the three and sometimes four judges. There are some good singers, there are some bad ones and all of them wait for the judgments with the worst coming from the man on the extreme right. So a lot of glowing faces and a lot of falling faces can be seen as well. All this adds to the curiosity and the suspense considering who draws the short end of the stick and who might take an unexpected victory. The power alone lies not with the judges but with the audience as well.
The best part about the show is the collection of good tunes and great music one can hear from acclaimed artists such as
The Beatles, Elton John and Elvis Presley to name a few. Within a matter of weeks, don’t be surprised if you find yourself rooting for the underdog or becoming an ardent fan of a particular contestant as for all you know, he or she could be the next big thing.

Then there are always the judges, namely Simon, Paula and Randy who are known to keep the show going with their bits and piece, critical assessments and moreover the once in a while argument which often threatens to tip over polite curtsies. Simon, the one character everyone loves to hate is always full of surprises with the curt replies and the tossed insults which he infallibly makes at every opportunity. Paula with her empathy, endearing support and her soft touch to the show and lastly, Ryan to keep a tab and to make sure it does not go too far.

It is no surprise that the success of the American Idol has gained acclaim internationally and has spawned many domestic shows following the same attributes in many countries. Many of its clones such as Britain’s Got Talent have thrown up musical wonders, most recently Susan Boyle amongst others who have captivated millions by their pristine voice.
