Wireless Networking Is A Growing Trend
Call it the hottest thing in the town or just the need of the hour, wireless technology is making its mark in every aspect of our life. Being one of the fastest growing technologies, wireless communication has taken leaps and bounds in transforming the way we live. Making it very easy for every gadget and household appliance to communicate with each other, wireless networking is also responsible for effective implementation of internet and data sharing between devices.
As the demand for interconnectivity between devices increases, so does the demand for an easy solution for providing this facility. Being different from normal wired connections, wireless connections between devices provide peace of mind from cables while connecting devices with each other. Wireless internet connection being realized with the help of wireless networking can be found everywhere from colleges and hospitals to corporate buildings and government institutions.
Although wireless communication has many benefits over Ethernet and other wired communications, wireless networking suffers from its own set of drawbacks. Security being one of the primary concerns, wireless networking also suffers from loss of signals and signal range problem.
Wi-Fi or wireless fidelity has added to the already hyped usability of wireless networking. While wireless transmission is done mainly thorough free space, radio waves are the preferred medium for data transfer with wireless networking. Cutting down on the cost of lying down network cables, systems with Wi-Fi or wireless networking capabilities can communicate wirelessly with other devices and surf the internet with ease.
Although a great share for the popularity of wireless networking depends on many benefits that wireless technology provides over wired connections, cheaper and beneficial wireless networking equipment is also responsible for its success. While equipments like wireless router and wireless card are required for transmission and reception of a wireless signal, equipments such as wireless switches, signal boosters and modems (for internet) are required for efficient implementation of a wireless network. Let’s take a closer look at some of them.
Wireless Router – The term wireless router is derived from router. Although working just like a router that intelligently manages various connections between devices and networks, a wireless router just performs these tasks wirelessly. Basically getting data from the source computer or through internet, a wireless router transmits this data through wireless channels to their destination device. After being connected to a router, a device can receive information from any device in the network and information can be routed to it directly from the source device. A wireless router uses destination SSID for checking the destination integrity.
Wireless Card – Like a wireless router is used to transmit signals, a wireless card is used to receive signals. While modern laptops and desktop computers come laden with built-in wireless capabilities, many users resort to using wireless cards for getting connected with Wi-Fi hotspots and wireless routers so that they are able connect with internet or with other devices. Connected to the PCI slot in a desktop computer, USB Wi-Fi wireless receivers and plug and play wireless networking cards are available for laptops.
If we look at the present scenario wireless communications are reshaping the world as we speak. If you are lagging behind the wireless wagon, better jump on it!
