Teeth Whitening Toothpastes
A good white set of well formed teeth is always a welcome by us all. In fact, the urge to have a perfect set of white teeth has grown to a fully functional million dollar industry. So competitive is this business of teeth whitening products that companies are churning out products by numbers in the market every month! The big question which remains to be seen here is the quality of these teeth whitening products – are they even worth a try?
A large majority of these products that hit the market are essentially whitening toothpastes. Simply said, teeth whitening toothpastes are the toothpastes that contain polishing agents, and chemical agents which (claim) help in getting whiter teeth. Many whitening toothpastes contain a solution of 10-15% carbamide peroxide which assists in teeth whitening. As opposed to popular belief, teeth whitening toothpastes do not use bleach as an ingredient for teeth whitening, this process generally done by usage of gentle polishing agents, chemical chelation or some other non-bleaching action.
As opposed to advertisements claims in the media, the tooth whitening toothpastes can not give you whiter teeth by themselves. Peroxide, the most effective agent used in a tooth whitening toothpaste is not exposed for a long enough time on the tooth surface for having its effect. After usage of a teeth whitening product, teeth whitening toothpastes are advised to be used as a maintenance measure for upholding the whiteness. Do not even bother with tetracycline stains or medicinal stains as they are extremely difficult to remove from your natural teeth and should be removed by a teeth whitening process or bonding techniques like composite and veneer bonding done by a dentist, hygienist or a cosmetic surgeon.
Teeth whitening toothpastes are found to be effective in removing surface strains like coffee, tea, tobacco, wine, cola, cigarette smoking and other heavy colored food items. Whitening toothpastes are also effective in maintaining a better oral hygiene which keeps teeth shining longer.
Safety and credibility of teeth whitening toothpastes is not a concern as many multinational firms related to the field of oral care have invested millions of dollars in research and development of these products. Almost all such products are approver/certified by some medical association or authority related to the field.
Apart from advantages from a better oral care and hygiene, one of the major advantages of this product is its ability to maintain whiteness after use of other teeth whitening products/ methods. Regular use of whitening toothpastes can lead to lower frequency of dentist appointments for teeth whitening. As they are much cheaper then a regular teeth whitening method or product, they seem to be a good tradeoff.
So, finally we can come to a conclusion that these oral care products are only effective in maintaining a better oral hygiene and continuing the whiteness of teeth done by other teeth whitening products or methods. Solely relying on these products for whiter teeth would result in a disappointment.
